Camshaft Timing Gear ⚙️ for Mitsubishi compact engines
This OE-spec camshaft gear keeps engine valve timing precise by linking the camshaft to the crankshaft via the timing chain ⛓️. Correct timing means smooth idle, reliable starts, good fuel economy, and clean emissions. Replace the gear when teeth are worn, chipped, or after a noisy chain/tensioner service.
How it works
The gear is keyed and bolted to the camshaft. As the crank turns, the chain drives this gear so valves open and close at exact degrees. Hardened teeth and clear timing marks ensure accurate alignment. Some versions include a trigger pattern for the cam position sensor so the ECU can control ignition and any VVT logic.
Why you need it
Fresh parts restore power and reduce rattle. Install during timing chain repair, after oil starvation, or when marks no longer line up. Correct fit protects chain, guides, and tensioner.
If it fails ❗
Expect rattle, misfire, rough idle, poor power, hard starting, and a Check Engine light. Severe wear can make the chain jump a tooth—risking bent valves and major engine damage. A cracked or loose gear can cause a no‑start.
Tech notes
Use a new bolt, follow torque‑angle spec, align marks at TDC, verify chain tension, and oil the parts on assembly. Inspect guides and tensioner every time.
