Engine Rear Oil Seal Retainer ?️

This component is a precision holder that supports and locks the rear crankshaft oil seal in the correct position at the back of the engine. It is needed to keep engine oil inside the crankcase while the crankshaft spins at high RPM. A good retainer means the seal stays perfectly centered, the sealing lip runs true, and oil pressure plus splash oil can’t escape toward the transmission side.

How it works βš™οΈ

The retainer bolts to the engine block and creates a rigid mounting surface for the rear oil seal. It keeps the seal square to the crankshaft, prevents seal walk-out, and helps maintain an even contact pattern on the crank surface. Many designs also guide oil return and reduce turbulence around the seal area for cleaner sealing.

Why it matters ?

If this part is bent, cracked, worn, or installed incorrectly, the seal can sit crooked and start leaking. You may see oil drops between engine and gearbox, a burning oil smell on hot parts, low engine oil level, and clutch/torque converter contamination. Ignoring it can lead to clutch slip, driveline mess, and costly engine or transmission removal again.
