Why you need this part

This set controls crankshaft endplay (axial movement). It keeps the crank centered under clutch or torque converter load, protects the block and main bearings, and helps smooth gear changes. With correct thrust control, your engine holds stable oil pressure, the flywheel stays aligned, and seals last longer. It’s a small part that prevents big and costly wear.

How it works βš™οΈ

Two semicircular washers sit on the thrust faces of a main bearing saddle, creating a low-friction surface for the crank to push against. Their steel or bronze-backed faces and oil grooves form a thin oil film, limiting movement to spec. This keeps the crank in line with the transmission and prevents rubbing on the block or flexplate/flywheel.

What happens if it fails 🚨

Excess endplay causes hard shifting, clutch drag, rough idle, damaged rear main seal, knocking at the crank pulley, and metal particles in oil. Severe β€œcrank walk” can mark the block, eat the crank thrust face, trigger misalignment of the ring gear, and lead to costly rebuilds.
