Front Crankshaft Oil Seal for Mitsubishi Applications ️
This seal keeps engine oil inside the block where the crankshaft exits the timing cover. It maintains oil pressure, protects belts and pulleys from oil spray, and prevents dirt from entering. A healthy front main seal is essential for clean running, stable idle, and long bearing life.
How it works ⚙️
A heat‑resistant elastomer lip, preloaded by a garter spring, rides on the crank snout. Micro sealing ribs and directional grooves return oil inward while the metal shell presses squarely into the housing. With correct lubrication, the lip forms a thin hydrodynamic film that seals at all RPM and temperatures.
What happens if it fails
Expect oil drips under the front of the engine, a wet harmonic balancer, burning oil smell, and contaminated belts. Continued leaks cause low oil level, noisy bearings, timing belt slip, and possible engine damage.
Tech tips
Inspect the crank sealing surface; polish if grooved. Install dry on the outside, lightly oil the lip, and seat flush using a proper driver. Align keyway, torque the pulley bolt to spec, then recheck for leaks after first heat cycle.
