    Why this part is needed

    This small ring keeps engine oil inside the timing cover where the crankshaft exits the block. It stops leaks at the front pulley area, protects belts and sensors, and maintains correct oil level. A healthy seal means a clean, dry front of engine and long accessory belt life.

    How it works

    A spring-loaded elastomer lip hugs the crank journal while the crank spins thousands of times per minute. A dust lip blocks debris. Correct material and lip profile manage heat, vibration, and slight shaft runout. Light oil film under the lip makes a hydrodynamic barrier for leak-free sealing.

    What if it fails ⚠️

    Expect oil spray on the pulley and belts, burning smell, drips under the front of engine, and messy timing cover. Belts can slip or squeal, alternator may undercharge, and oil level can drop—risking bearing wear. Replace at the first sign of seepage. Install squarely, lightly oil the lip, inspect the crank surface, and verify PCV is clear.
