Engine Crankshaft Main Bearing Set ️

This precision bearing supports the crankshaft inside the engine block, keeping it perfectly aligned while it spins at high RPM. It is needed to carry heavy combustion loads, reduce friction, and protect the crank journals from direct metal-to-metal contact. Without a healthy bearing surface, oil film cannot hold pressure correctly, and wear accelerates fast.

How it works βš™οΈ

The bearing shells sit in the block/cap saddles and create a smooth, lubricated surface. Engine oil forms a thin hydrodynamic film that β€œfloats” the crankshaft during operation. This film controls clearance, stabilizes rotation, and helps manage heat so the crank stays true under load.

Signs of failure & what happens if broken

If the bearing is worn or damaged, you may hear deep knocking, see low oil pressure, or find metal flakes in the oil. Continued driving can lead to spun bearings, scored crank journals, overheating, and finally crank seizureβ€”often ending in a full engine rebuild.
