Engine Rocker Cover Seal (Valve Cover Gasket)
This seal sits between the rocker/valve cover and the cylinder head. It is needed to keep engine oil inside the top of the engine while the camshaft area splashes oil during running. A good seal stops leaks, keeps correct crankcase breathing, and protects ignition coils and wiring from oil contamination ✅.
How It Works
The gasket is made to compress evenly when the cover bolts are tightened. It follows small surface imperfections and maintains tension as the engine heats and cools. This creates a stable barrier against oil seepage and pressure pulses in the valve train area ⚙️.
What Happens If It’s Broken
When the seal hardens, cracks, or gets pinched, oil starts to leak down the engine. You may notice a burnt-oil smell, smoke near the exhaust, wet spark plug wells, misfires, and messy dirt build-up that traps heat. Ignoring it can lead to coil failure and low oil level over time .
