Why you need it ️
This cover seals the top of the cylinder head, keeping engine oil inside and dirt outside. It protects the camshafts and valvetrain, controls crankcase breathing via the PCV port, and quiets mechanical noise. A healthy cover with a fresh gasket prevents oil leaks, burning smells, and messy engines—key for clean, reliable daily driving.
How it works ️
The cover bolts to the head with a perimeter gasket and grommets that spread clamping force. Internal baffles separate oil from blow‑by gases before they exit to the PCV system, reducing oil carryover. Plug tube seals keep oil away from spark plugs and coils. Correct torque and sequence keep the flange flat and leak‑free through heat cycles.
What if it’s damaged ⚠️
Cracks or a warped flange cause oil leaks onto the block or exhaust (burnt oil smell), low oil level, and smoke. Failed plug tube seals invite misfires and rough idle. A leaking PCV port can trigger a check engine light and lean codes. Dirt ingress accelerates wear and sludge. Replace the cover and always renew gasket, grommets, and plug tube seals; torque evenly and add small RTV dabs at cam cap joints.
