Vacuum Control Solenoid (VSV) for Toyota engines

This small but critical vacuum control solenoid manages engine vacuum to systems like EGR and EVAP. You need it to keep emissions low, fuel economy stable, and drivability smooth. When the engine computer commands it, the solenoid routes vacuum precisely, helping reduce NOx, purge fuel vapors, and maintain steady idle.

How it works ⚙️

Inside is a coil-driven plunger. The ECU energizes the coil, switching the valve between open and closed. That action connects or blocks manifold vacuum to diaphragms and actuators. Correct switching regulates EGR flow at cruise and opens the purge line at the right time. Heat‑resistant plastics and tight ports ensure fast response and leak-free control.

What happens if it fails ❗

Stuck or leaking VSV causes rough idle, weak acceleration, pinging, higher fuel use, and increased emissions. Expect a Check Engine Light with codes like P0401/P0441, hard warm restarts, fuel smell, or failed inspection. Cracked nipples, clogged ports, or a dead coil are common faults—replace to restore proper control and prevent catalyst damage.
