This brake service set is needed whenever a caliper is rebuilt or when you see fluid dampness around the piston area. Its job is to keep brake fluid sealed under high pressure while allowing the piston to glide smoothly as you press the pedal. A fresh seal and dust cover also stop road grit, salt, and moisture from cutting the piston surface and bore.

How it works ⚙️

Inside the caliper, the hydraulic seal holds pressure so the piston can clamp the pads to the disc. When you release the pedal, the seal’s elastic “twist-back” action helps retract the piston slightly, preventing pad drag and overheating. The outer boot shields the piston from dirt, extending caliper life.

What happens if it’s worn or damaged ❌

A failed seal can cause brake fluid leaks, a soft or sinking pedal, uneven braking, and reduced stopping power. Torn boots invite corrosion, leading to sticking pistons, rapid pad wear, pulling to one side, overheated rotors, and in severe cases loss of braking pressure. Replacing the seals during caliper service restores safety and pedal feel.
