How it works

The 12V bulb sits in a small socket behind the ashtray. When you turn on the park/head lights, current flows through the harness to this lamp. It often dims with the dash rheostat, spreading soft light through a clear diffuser.

If it fails

No light in the tray, uneven console glow, and a dated look. A short or corroded socket may blow the fuse, heat the holder, or mark wiring. You may also notice flicker or a burnt smell. Replace promptly to avoid harness damage.
