Why you need it ️

This seal keeps engine oil inside the block while blocking dust and splash from outside. It is critical on the timing or flywheel side to prevent leaks, protect belts and sensors, and keep oil level stable. Replacing a tired seal restores factory tightness and prevents mess and smell.

How it works

A steel-cased radial lip with a garter spring hugs the crank journal. Micro ribs pump oil inward while the spring holds even pressure at all RPM. High‑temp elastomer resists heat and chemicals. Honda-specific sizing ensures a snug seat: inner 80 mm, outer 98 mm, width 8 mm for vibration-safe sealing.

What if it fails ⚠️

Signs include wet lower cover, driveway drips, burning oil smell, smoke on exhaust, and oily belts. On rear side you may get clutch slip. Long-term leakage risks low oil, bearing wear, misfire from oil contamination, and degraded timing belt.

Tech tips

Inspect crank surface; polish light grooves. Lightly oil the lip, install square with a driver, do not overdrive. Verify PCV/breather so pressure does not push the seal out. Torque pulleys to spec and recheck after a short road test.
