Electric Tailgate Drive Unit (Power Back Door Motor Assembly)

This drive unit is the heart of the power back door system. It is needed to lift, pull down, and hold the tailgate smoothly with the correct force, so you can open and close the rear door safely with a button or key signal. Without a healthy drive unit, the tailgate becomes heavy, unsafe, and unreliable.

How It Works ⚙️

The internal motor and reduction gears convert electric power into controlled movement. Working with the tailgate control module and sensors, it ramps speed up and down, detects resistance, and stops at the fully open/closed positions. A strong drive unit keeps alignment steady and reduces strain on hinges and struts.

If the Drive Unit Fails

A worn motor, stripped gears, or water-damaged electronics can cause slow operation, clicking noises, incomplete closing, or sudden reversal. In bad cases the tailgate may drop, latch poorly, or trigger warning beeps. Continued use can overload wiring, damage the latch, and bend tailgate hardware.
