Rear A/C Evaporator Unit for Toyota

This rear cabin evaporator is a key part of the air-conditioning system in multi-row Toyota vehicles. It is needed to cool the rear passengers area, keeping temperature even from front to back ❄️. When rear cooling feels weak while the front is fine, this component is often the reason.

How It Works

Refrigerant flows through the evaporator core inside the rear HVAC box. As air from the rear blower passes across the cold fins, heat and humidity are removed. The result is colder, drier air delivered through the rear vents. Proper fin spacing and internal passages are critical for fast heat transfer and stable pressure.

If It’s Broken or Blocked

A damaged or leaking core can cause poor rear A/C performance, oily residue at drain points, and refrigerant loss that may affect the whole system. A clogged unit can reduce airflow and create musty odor . Ignoring it may overload the compressor, increase system pressure, and lead to expensive repairs.
