Steering Wheel Spiral Cable Assembly (Clock Spring)

This steering column spiral cable is needed to keep the steering wheel electronics working while the wheel turns left and right. It sits behind the steering wheel and safely carries electrical signals for key systems like the airbag (SRS),horn, and steering wheel buttons without twisting or breaking wires.

How it works ⚙️

Inside the housing, a flat ribbon cable is wound in a spiral track. As you rotate the wheel, the ribbon winds and unwinds smoothly, keeping constant contact between the steering wheel and the vehicle wiring loom.

When it’s failing

If the spiral cable is damaged or out of center, you may get an SRS/airbag warning light, horn failure, intermittent steering wheel controls, or a fault after steering work. A broken unit can disable the driver airbag circuit and trigger warning codes—don’t ignore it.
