Power Steering Return Hose (Low-Pressure Line)

This hose is a key link in the hydraulic power steering circuit. It carries used steering fluid back from the steering rack to the reservoir, helping keep the system cool, clean, and responsive ?️. When the return line is healthy, fluid circulates smoothly and the pump stays properly fed.

Why this part is needed

Even though it’s a low-pressure line, it must stay perfectly sealed. Heat from the engine bay, vibration, and oil exposure slowly harden the rubber. Replacing it prevents fluid loss and protects the pump, rack, and seals.

How it works

After you turn the wheel, fluid exits the steering gear and flows through this hose back to the reservoir. The hose flexes with engine movement while maintaining steady flow, reducing aeration and keeping steering assist consistent.

What happens if it’s broken

A cracked or loose hose can leak, pull air into the system, and cause:

• Whining noise from the pump
• Heavy steering, especially at low speed
• Foamy fluid and jerky steering feel
• Fluid spots under the vehicle and possible pump damage
