Steering Gearbox Sector Shaft Oil Seal Kit ?

This kit stops power steering fluid leaks at the steering gearbox sector (pitman) shaft. When the original seals harden or groove, ATF/PSF escapes, the pump runs low, and steering feel suffers. Replacing the seals keeps the box tight, reduces play, and prevents messy drips on the driveway. It’s a smart, low-cost fix that can save a steering box and pump from premature wear, and keeps classic Nissan trucks and coupes driving true ?.

How it works ?

The kit includes inner pressure seal(s),dust seal, and related rings that fit in the gearbox housing bore. Under pump pressure, the lip seals hug the sector shaft and hold fluid in, while the dust seal blocks dirt from reaching the shaft bush. Correct fit, depth, and orientation keep hydraulic pressure stable and steering effort consistent.

What happens if it’s damaged ?

Common signs are wetness under the pitman arm, red fluid drips, low reservoir level, pump whine, and vague steering. Left alone, the pump can overheat, the box can wear or rust internally, and inspection failures may follow. Tires can feather due to inconsistent assist, and the chassis gets soaked in oil.

Pro install notes

Clean the bore, polish light shaft grooves, lightly oil lips, and press square to spec depth. Check shaft play; excessive wobble means the box needs rebuild. Torque cover fasteners evenly and verify leak-free on a short lock-to-lock test.
