This intermediate steering shaft links the steering column to the steering gear, delivering precise wheel response in heavy-duty SUVs. How it works

Splined ends clamp securely to the column and steering box. Double U‑joints with sealed needle bearings transmit torque while handling angle changes. Corrosion‑resistant yokes and precision machining keep play to a minimum for direct, linear feedback.

What happens if it’s worn or broken ⚠️

Symptoms include clunking over bumps, steering play, notchiness, and a pull or wander at speed. Stiff or delayed response appears as the joints seize. Excess backlash can trigger shudder in the wheel and uneven tire wear. In severe cases the link can slip, causing sudden loss of steering control—replace at the first signs of noise or looseness.
