Rear Axle Drive Shaft for Toyota Vehicles

This rear drive shaft links the differential to the rear wheel, sending engine power to the road. Built from high-strength steel with precision splines, it keeps torque delivery smooth and reliable for daily use, towing, and off-road work. It’s designed for select Toyota RWD/4x4 platforms and supports ABS where equipped.

Why you need it

Without a healthy shaft, the rear wheel cannot receive torque. On semi-floating setups, it also helps carry vehicle weight and keeps wheel alignment true. A strong, straight shaft means better traction, quieter running, and longer bearing and seal life.

How it works ⚙️

The inner splines engage the differential side gear; the outer end connects to the hub/flange. It rotates on a pressed wheel bearing, while an oil seal keeps gear oil inside the axle tube. Many versions include an ABS tone ring that feeds the speed sensor.

What happens if it’s damaged

Symptoms include humming, vibration under load, clunks on takeoff, gear oil leaks, and ABS warning lights. Severe wear can strip splines or snap the shaft—leading to loss of drive and, on some designs, a wobbling wheel. This is a safety risk and can ruin bearings and seals.

Tech notes & install tips

• Match spline count, length, and ABS ring tooth count.
• Always renew bearing, retainer, and axle seal.
• Torque flange fasteners; use thread locker where specified.
• Refill with GL-5 75W-90 and check for metal debris.
• Avoid striking the tone ring; verify sensor gap.
