Rear Propeller Shaft Assembly

This rear driveshaft links the transfer case to the rear differential and sends engine torque to the axle. Built from high‑strength steel and factory balanced, it keeps NVH low and power delivery smooth during daily driving, towing, and off‑road use. Correct length and balance protect seals and bearings along the entire drivetrain.

Why this part is needed

Without a healthy prop shaft, the rear wheels don’t get drive. A precise assembly maintains alignment, prevents vibration, and safeguards the transfer case output, center bearing (if equipped),and differential pinion.

How it works ⚙️

U‑joints/CV joints allow angular movement as the suspension travels, while a slip spline adjusts length so nothing binds. A center support bearing (where fitted) holds the tube steady. Balanced weights cancel harmonics at highway speed for quiet, stable performance.

What happens when it fails ❗

Expect shudder on takeoff, clunk shifting into D/R, humming at 40–60 mph, or grease loss and play at the joints. Driving on a bad shaft can seize a joint, crack the tube, damage flanges and seals, and even cause loss of drive.

Tech install notes

Mark phasing before removal, align balance marks, use threadlocker, torque flange bolts to spec, and replace worn straps/bolts. Verify runout, then road‑test and check for leaks at the transfer case and pinion seals.
