Camshaft Timing Position Sensor for Hyundai & Kia Engines ?

This sensor is a key input for the engine control unit. It “tells” the ECU exactly where the camshaft is, so the system can time fuel injection and ignition with high accuracy. Without a clean cam signal, modern engines struggle to start, idle, and accelerate smoothly.

Why this part is needed ✅

Variable valve timing and precise combustion control depend on real-time camshaft position feedback. The ECU uses this signal to sync the camshaft with the crankshaft, improving power, fuel economy, and emissions.

How it works ⚙️

Mounted near the cam gear, the sensor reads a trigger wheel/reluctor as it spins. It generates a digital pulse that the ECU interprets as camshaft angle and phase. This allows accurate cylinder identification and stable timing control under all loads.

What happens if it’s failing or broken ?

A bad sensor may cause hard starting, random stalling, rough idle, misfires, weak acceleration, and higher fuel use. You may also see a check engine light and the ECU may force limp mode or disable valve timing adjustments, leading to poor performance and emissions issues.
