Drive Pinion Oil Seal for Rear Differential ️

This seal keeps gear oil inside the differential and dirt outside. It sits around the drive pinion where the prop shaft connects, locking in lubrication for the bearings and ring-and-pinion gears. A fresh seal prevents leaks, noise, and costly gear damage, keeping your drivetrain smooth and quiet.

How It Works ⚙️

A precision rubber lip with a garter spring hugs the pinion flange surface, forming a tight barrier. The seal holds pressure, resists heat and rotation, and may include a dust lip to block debris. Proper lubrication on the lip reduces friction and wear.

What Happens If It Fails ⚠️

You’ll see gear oil drops, smell burnt oil, or hear a whine on acceleration or decel. Low oil leads to hot bearings, pitted gears, metal shavings, and finally differential failure—an expensive repair. Leaks can also coat the underbody and rubber mounts.

Tech Tips

Inspect the flange for grooves; use a sleeve if needed. Lightly oil the seal lip, press it square, and set pinion nut preload to spec. Replace crush sleeve and nut when required. Check the diff breather; a clogged vent causes repeat leaks.
