Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor for Honda Vehicles ️

Why this part is needed

This small sensor tells the ECU the true engine coolant temperature. With that data, the ECU sets cold‑start enrichment, idle speed, ignition timing, VTEC strategy, fan operation, and emission controls. A healthy sensor means smooth starts, stable idle, clean exhaust, and good fuel economy .

How it works

Inside is an NTC thermistor. As coolant warms, resistance drops. The ECU feeds a 5V reference and reads the return voltage to calculate temperature. Sealed threads and a crush washer keep the cooling system tight, while a weatherproof 2‑pin connector ensures a clean signal to the ECU.

What happens if it’s broken

Expect hard cold starts, rich running, rough idle, poor MPG, and fans that don’t switch correctly (overheating or fans always on). Check Engine Light may show ECT circuit codes. Some models use a separate gauge sender, so the dash can look “normal” while the ECU reads wrong. Diagnose before the head gasket suffers ⚠️.

Pro install tips

Work on a cool engine. Unplug, catch coolant, swap with a new sealing washer, torque to spec, refill and bleed air. Avoid excess sealant; keep the connector clean and dry.
