Main Shaft Needle Bearing – Smooth Gearbox Support ?

This needle bearing is a critical support part inside the transmission, designed to carry high radial load while taking up very little space. It’s needed to keep the main shaft running true, so gears stay aligned and power flows cleanly from the engine to the wheels.

How It Works ⚙️

Instead of balls, it uses many slim rollers (needles). These rollers reduce friction between the shaft and its housing, helping the shaft spin freely under heavy load. Proper lubrication creates a thin oil film that prevents metal-to-metal contact and controls heat.

Why Replacing It Matters ?️

When this bearing wears, the shaft can wobble and load the gears unevenly. That leads to whining noises, rough shifting, vibration, and faster wear on synchros and gears. If it fails completely, debris can spread through the gearbox and cause severe internal damage—often turning a small fix into a full rebuild.
