How It Works

The shaft runs on precision bearings and supports multiple gears/splines. As you select a gear, the matching gear pair locks and the shaft transmits rotation at the chosen ratio. Proper hardness, straightness, and surface finish prevent chatter, heat spots, and premature wear under heavy load.

What Happens If It’s Worn or Broken

A damaged shaft can cause whining or grinding noises, hard shifting, jumping out of gear, metal flakes in oil, and vibration through the driveline. In severe cases it may strip splines or seize a bearing, leading to sudden loss of drive and major internal gearbox damage .
