Why this part is needed

This smart switch tells the ECU and starter which gear you selected (P, R, N, D). It blocks starting unless the lever is in Park/Neutral, turns on reverse lamps, and helps the transmission shift correctly. Without it, drivability and safety suffer. Ideal for restoring reliable starts, proper PRND display, and safe reversing .

How it works

Mounted on the transmission selector shaft, a rotary cam moves wiper contacts across fixed tracks. As you shift, different circuits close. The ECU reads these positions, enables the starter in P/N, activates the reverse light relay in R, and sets shift logic. A sealed body and weatherproof connector keep signals clean even in harsh road conditions .

What happens if it fails

Common signs: no-crank unless you wiggle the shifter, PRND mismatch on the cluster, reverse lights dead or stuck on, harsh shifts or limp mode, and fault codes like P0705/P0850. In rare shorts, the car may start in gear—serious hazard ⚠️. Replacing the worn unit restores safe starts and smooth operation.

Tech tips

Direct-fit, bolt-on. Align marks, lightly snug bolts, select Neutral, adjust switch until the starter enables, then torque. Clear codes and check reverse lights. Inspect harness; add dielectric grease to the connector for long life ✅.
