Transmission Range Safety Switch (Park/Neutral)

This small but critical switch tells the vehicle when the selector is in P or N. It is needed for safe starting and correct gearbox/ECU logic, helping prevent the car from cranking in Drive or Reverse ⚙️.

How it works

Inside the unit, contact tracks line up with the shifter position. When the lever reaches Park or Neutral, the switch closes the correct circuit, allowing the starter signal and sending a clean position message to the control system. This keeps starting, idle behavior, and shift commands consistent.

When it fails

A worn or misaligned switch can cause no-crank even with the lever in P/N, or random starting only in one position. You may also see wrong gear indication, harsh engagement, limp mode, or reverse lights acting incorrectly. Continued driving with a faulty signal can stress the starter circuit and confuse transmission control ❗
