This emissions and fuel-control sensor is needed to keep the engine running at the correct air-to-fuel mixture during idle, cruise, and acceleration. It helps the ECU “see” how clean the burn is, so the system can adjust fueling fast for power, economy, and low emissions ✅

How It Works

Mounted in the exhaust stream, the sensing element reads oxygen content and mixture strength. A built-in heater warms it up quickly after start-up, so the ECU can enter closed-loop control sooner. The signal is used to fine-tune injector pulse and stabilize combustion ?

What Happens If It Fails

If this sensor is weak or dead, you may notice a check engine light, rough idle, hesitation, higher fuel use, fuel smell, failed emissions test, or catalytic converter stress. Driving too long with a bad reading can cause carbon build-up and shorten catalyst life ❗
