Air Flow Meter for Accurate Fuel Control

Why your engine needs it

This intake air sensor lets the ECU dose fuel with precision. By knowing the real air mass, the engine maintains smooth idle, strong pull, clean emissions, and great mileage. Hybrids gain seamless engine-motor handoff and steady start-stop behavior. Without the right air data, power and economy both suffer.

How it works ⚙️

A heated film element sits in the air stream between the filter box and throttle body. As airflow rises, it cools the element. The module increases current to hold a fixed temperature gap, then outputs a signal the ECU translates to grams per second. Expect crisp throttle, stable fuel trims, and correct ignition timing when it reads true.

What if it fails

Hard starts, rough idle, flat spots, poor mpg, rich/lean smell, misfires, stalling, and a lit MIL (codes P0100–P0104). Long running rich can damage the catalyst. Dirt or oil films skew readings; open circuits cause limp mode.

Pro tips for service

• Install with arrow facing airflow; seal O-ring, no air leaks.
• Do not touch the sensing wire; clean only with MAF spray.
• Check intake boots and PCV lines for cracks.
• After install, perform idle relearn if required.
