How it works

Inside is a wax pellet that expands at a set temperature. When cold, the valve stays closed, routing coolant inside the block. As temperature rises, the valve opens smoothly, sending coolant to the radiator to remove heat.

What happens if it fails ⚠️

Stuck closed: overheating, boiling coolant, warning light, possible engine damage. Stuck open: long warm-up, poor heater, rich fuel mix, high emissions, check engine light. Erratic action: temp swings, reduced performance.

Tech notes

Replace gasket/O-ring, bleed air, verify fan operation, and use the correct coolant mix. Always install with the jiggle pin up if equipped.
