Engine Top Cover Assembly (Rocker Area)

How It Works

The cover mounts on the cylinder head and forms a closed chamber above the cam/rocker mechanism. Inside, oil splashes and returns through drain paths back to the sump. The gasket and bolt torque pattern create even pressure so oil cannot escape, while the breather ports guide vapors to the intake system for burning instead of leaking to the outside.

Why Replacement Matters

If the cover or gasket is cracked, warped, or the sealing surface is damaged, oil will seep out and may drip onto hot parts, creating a burning smell and smoke . Vacuum leaks from failed breathers can cause rough idle, higher fuel use, and sludge buildup. Long-term leakage can lower oil level, leading to valvetrain wear and serious engine damage.
