How It Works ⚙️

The lifter rides on the cam lobe and moves up and down. Inside, engine oil pressure helps it self-adjust, so the valve opens the right amount at the right time. This reduces tapping noise and helps protect the camshaft, rocker arms, and valve tips from harsh impact.

What Happens If It Fails ❗

A worn or stuck lifter can cause ticking/knocking sounds, rough idle, misfire, loss of power, and poor acceleration. In severe cases it may accelerate cam wear, damage valve train components, and lead to costly cylinder head repairs. Replacing it early helps prevent bigger engine trouble.
