Timing Chain Tensioner Assembly ?

This engine part keeps the timing chain tight and stable so the crankshaft and camshaft stay perfectly synchronized. It is needed because chains naturally stretch with mileage, heat, and oil wear. Without steady tension, the chain can whip, slap guides, and drift out of correct timing.

How it works ⚙️

The tensioner uses a spring plus oil pressure to push a plunger against the chain guide. As engine speed and oil pressure change, it automatically adjusts, keeping smooth chain movement and reducing noise. A built-in lock mechanism helps hold tension during start-up, when oil pressure is low.

A worn or stuck unit may cause rattling on cold starts, rough idle, loss of power, and timing-related fault codes. In severe cases the chain can jump teeth, leading to misfire and possible valve-to-piston contact—an expensive engine repair.
