Engine Flywheel Assembly ⚙️

This heavy steel disc sits between the engine and clutch/torque converter. It is needed to store rotating energy, smooth engine pulses, and give the starter motor a strong ring-gear to crank the engine. A healthy flywheel helps the vehicle pull away cleanly, shift smoother, and idle with less vibration.

How It Works

When the crankshaft spins, the flywheel spins with it. Its mass keeps momentum, reducing jerks from each combustion stroke. The starter engages the toothed ring gear to turn the engine during start-up. On manual setups, the clutch grips the flywheel face to transfer power to the gearbox.

When It’s Worn or Broken

Common signs include grinding on start, clutch chatter, shuddering take-off, burnt clutch smell, and vibration under load. A damaged ring gear can cause no-start. A warped or cracked face can destroy a new clutch fast and may lead to harsh engagement and gearbox stress.
