How it works

The multi-rib belt loops the crankshaft pulley, alternator, and tensioner/idler. Engine rotation drives the ribs by friction, turning accessories at the correct speed. Correct tension stops slip, squeal, and voltage drops, protecting bearings and pulleys.

When worn or broken

Watch for squeaks, cracks, glazing, battery light, dim headlights, rising temp gauge, or burnt rubber smell. If it snaps, charging stops and coolant flow falls—leading to quick overheating and a stranded vehicle. Replace at service intervals or at first signs of wear. During install, inspect pulleys and the tensioner, and follow the routing diagram.
