Why this part is needed

How it works

Driven by the serpentine belt, an electromagnetic clutch locks the hub to the pulley when A/C is requested. Inside, a multi‑piston pump compresses R134a/R1234yf, sending high‑pressure vapor to the condenser. A control valve trims output, balancing cooling with engine load for efficient performance ⚙️.

What happens if it’s broken

Warm air, intermittent cooling, or noisy chirping often appear first. Metal debris can contaminate lines and block the expansion device. A seized pulley may shred the belt, affecting alternator and power steering. Prolonged use risks condenser and dryer failure and higher repair costs.

Tech tips

Always flush the system, replace receiver‑dryer and metering device, add correct PAG oil, evacuate, then charge to spec. Fit new O‑rings and verify clutch air gap. Proper service prevents repeat failure and keeps vent air icy .
