Hood Lock Release Cable ??

This control cable links the interior hood handle to the front latch. You need it to open the hood safely for oil checks, coolant top-ups, battery service, and emergency repairs. Without a smooth, reliable pull, even simple maintenance turns into a struggle.

How it works

When you pull the cabin lever, the inner steel wire slides inside a protective outer sheath. That movement rotates the latch release arm at the hood lock, popping the primary catch so the hood can be lifted and secured. The sheath keeps the pull force direct, while the wire transmits it with minimal stretch.

What happens if it’s worn or broken

A stretched, rusty, or frayed cable causes a heavy or sticky handle, delayed release, or no release at all. If it snaps, the hood may stay locked shut, forcing risky access methods that can damage the grille, latch, or hood edge. In some cases a partially seized cable can prevent full latch return, affecting secure closing.

Common signs

  • Handle feels loose or suddenly harder to pull
  • Hood opens only after multiple pulls
  • Visible fraying at latch end
