Why this part is needed

It seals the joint between the top cover and cylinder head. A healthy seal stops oil mist leaks, maintains proper PCV vacuum, protects ignition parts, and helps the engine run clean and efficient.

How it works

A molded elastomer ring sits in the cover groove. When you torque the cover evenly, the seal compresses against the head’s machined surface, creating an oil-tight barrier that flexes with heat cycles and vibration.

When the seal fails ⚠️

Expect wet edges around the cover, burnt-oil smell, smoke near the manifold, oil in spark plug wells causing misfire, and gradual oil loss. Ignoring it can foul sensors, damage rubber hoses, and risk engine bay grime buildup.

Fitting tips for pros and DIYers

• Clean mating surfaces; no old gasket or RTV.
• Add a pea of RTV only at cam cap corners if specified.
• Tighten in sequence, low torque; do not overtighten.
• Replace cover grommets/bolts if crushed or cracked.
