Outer Upper Windshield Moulding
This trim strip sits along the top edge of the windshield on the outside. It is needed to seal the glass-to-body gap, guide rainwater away, and reduce wind noise at highway speeds ️. A good moulding also protects the adhesive bead from UV and dirt, helping the windshield stay firmly bonded over time.
How It Works
The moulding clips and/or seats into the upper channel, forming a tight finishing edge between the roof panel and the windshield. Its flexible profile absorbs small body movement, prevents dust buildup, and keeps airflow smooth to limit whistling noise. Think of it as the “weather cap” that completes the windshield installation.
If the Moulding Is Damaged
When cracked, shrunken, or missing, water can creep into the upper channel, leading to corrosion, headliner dampness, and persistent wind hiss . Loose pieces may flap at speed, and prolonged UV exposure can weaken the windshield bonding area, increasing the risk of leaks after car washes or heavy rain.
