This OE-spec locating dowel is a small but critical guide for the front axle assembly. It aligns the steering knuckle, hub, or bracket so the geometry stays true. Why it’s needed

Correct alignment reduces tire wear, brake noise, and pull. The dowel locks components in the right position so clamping bolts don’t have to fight side loads. That means quieter steering, straight tracking, and longer life for bearings and bushings.

How it works

The dowel is a precision press-fit in one component. The mating part slips over it, using the dowel as a reference pin. Under braking and cornering, the dowel carries lateral and shear forces while bolts provide clamp. This prevents micro-movement and keeps camber and toe stable.

When damaged or missing

Expect steering wander, clunks on bumps, uneven tire or pad wear, brake pulsation, and accelerated bearing wear. In severe cases, alignment won’t hold and fasteners can loosen over time.
