Steering Rack Boot Bellows for Subaru
Why this part is needed
This protective rack-and-pinion boot shields the steering cylinder and inner tie rod from dust, water, and road salt. It keeps grease clean, preserves seals, and maintains precise, light steering. How it works
The flexible EPDM bellows expands and contracts as you turn the wheel. One end clamps to the steering rack housing, the other to the inner tie rod. A small vent balances pressure so the boot moves freely. When clamped correctly, this dust cover (rack and pinion bellows/steering rack boot) traps lubricant and blocks contamination that grinds seals and bushings.
What happens if it’s broken
A tear or loose clamp lets grit and moisture in. Grease washes out, corrosion begins, and inner tie rod play develops. Symptoms include heavy steering, fluid seep at the rack, clunks over bumps, off‑center wheel, and uneven tire wear.
