Crankshaft Thrust Bearing – Controls Engine Endplay

This precision thrust unit keeps the crankshaft centered, holding axial movement in check so your engine runs smooth and quiet. Built to OEM geometry, it protects the block, main bearings, and transmission interface under clutch or torque‑converter loads.

Why this part is needed

Every engine produces forward/backward forces on the crank. The thrust surfaces absorb these loads, preventing crank walk, uneven wear, and oil pressure loss. It’s essential for clean gear shifts and stable idle.

How it works ⚙️

Half-rings integrate at the thrust faces of the center main bearing. A pressurized oil film separates the surfaces, carrying load while reducing friction. Accurate clearances keep endplay within spec for long bearing and crank life.

What if it fails ❗

Symptoms include clutch-press knock, harsh shifting, serpentine misalignment, and metallic glitter in oil. Continued use risks crank scoring, main saddle damage, and even block replacement. Early replacement prevents expensive rebuilds.

Install tips ️

Inspect crank thrust faces; replace in pairs. Lubricate on assembly and verify endplay with a dial indicator. Always change oil and filter after bearing service.
