Power Steering Pump Drive Belt

Keep your steering light and controlled with a fresh drive belt that powers the hydraulic steering pump. This belt transfers engine rotation from the crank pulley to the power steering pump, so the pump can build oil pressure and assist the steering gear ⚙️. A correct belt tension also helps protect pump bearings and prevents pulley slip.

Why This Belt Is Needed

Without a reliable belt, the pump can’t circulate steering fluid properly. That means heavy steering at low speed, slower steering response, and extra strain on the steering system—especially on heavier 4x4 platforms.

How It Works

The belt grips the pulleys with its ribbed surface, maintaining friction as the engine speed changes. When you turn the wheel, the pump must instantly meet demand; a strong belt keeps the pump spinning steadily, even under load ✅.

What Happens If It’s Worn or Broken

• Squealing noises on start-up or when turning
• Steering becomes stiff or jerky
• Pump may overheat from slipping, accelerating wear
• Complete belt failure can remove steering assist suddenly
