How It Works

Mounted in the exhaust, the sensing tip reacts to oxygen content after combustion. The ECU reads the changing voltage/resistance signal and adjusts injector pulse to keep the mixture near ideal. Many units include an internal heater, helping the sensor reach working temperature quickly after cold starts

Why You Need It

• Helps prevent rich/lean running
• Protects catalytic converter from fuel overload
• Improves drivability during idle and cruising

What Happens If It Fails

A faulty sensor can cause poor MPG, rough idle, hesitation, fuel smell, higher emissions, and a check engine light ⚠️. Long-term driving with wrong readings may damage the catalytic converter and foul spark plugs.
