Why you need this part

This small sensor is the brain’s thermometer for your diesel. It tells the ECU how hot the coolant is so the system can adjust fueling, idle speed, glow plug timing, and electric fan control. With accurate data, you get smooth cold starts, stable idle, clean emissions, and strong fuel economy. It also feeds the dash gauge, keeping you informed while towing or in city traffic .

How it works

Inside is an NTC thermistor. As coolant warms, resistance drops. The ECU reads that change and calculates real coolant temperature. The signal shapes warm‑up enrichment, EGR strategy, and fan engagement. Mounted in the housing or cylinder head, the probe sits in coolant flow for fast response.

What happens if it fails

Hard cold starts, rich running, black smoke, high fuel use, lazy throttle, or sudden fan operation. Gauge may read wrong, check engine light appears, and the ECU may enter limp mode. Inaccurate temperature can hide true overheating, risking head gasket damage .

Fitment and tips

OE reference: 89422‑33030. Replace if corroded or readings jump. Install with new seal, clean threads, and correct torque. Bleed air after refilling coolant. Always test wiring and ground if codes return ✅.
