Why this part is needed

This precision metering valve controls how much refrigerant enters the evaporator. It keeps the air cold at the vents, protects the compressor from liquid slugging, and stabilizes cabin comfort. In hot climates or heavy traffic, a healthy valve means faster cool-down, lower load on the HVAC system, and better fuel efficiency.

How it works

A sensing bulb monitors evaporator outlet temperature and pressure. Through a diaphragm and spring, the valve opens or closes a needle to maintain the correct superheat. That balance prevents freeze-up while delivering maximum cooling. Mounted at the evaporator inlet, it seals with O-rings and works seamlessly with R134a systems common on Toyota 4x4 SUVs.

If the valve fails ⚠️

Stuck closed: warm air, low suction pressure, starved evaporator. Stuck open: frosty pipes, high suction, weak cooling, possible liquid back to the compressor. Contamination: hissing, temperature swings, short cycling. Leaks cause slow refrigerant loss and poor A/C performance.

Pro tip ️

When replacing: change O-rings, flush lines, install a new receiver-drier, evacuate to deep vacuum, and recharge by weight with the correct PAG oil.
