Engine Timing Drive Belt ⏱️
This timing drive belt is a critical service part that keeps the engine’s valve timing accurate. It is needed because the crankshaft and camshaft must stay perfectly synchronized for smooth starting, strong pulling power, and clean fuel burn. When mileage builds up, rubber ages, teeth wear, and the belt can stretch—so replacement on schedule prevents costly engine damage.
How It Works
The belt runs around toothed sprockets, linking crank rotation to cam rotation. Its reinforced cord layer holds tension, while the teeth lock into the pulleys to prevent slip. With correct tension, the valves open and close at the right moment, keeping compression and combustion stable.
What Happens If It Breaks ⚠️
A failed belt can cause sudden no-start, misfiring, rough idle, or loss of power. If it snaps while driving, the cam stops turning and valve timing is lost instantly. On many Mitsubishi engines this can lead to bent valves, damaged pistons, and a major rebuild—far more expensive than routine belt service.
