Outer Steering Link Joint for Precise Control

This outer tie-rod style joint connects the inner rod to the steering knuckle, translating rack motion into wheel angle. It keeps front toe set correctly, so your car tracks straight, turns accurately, and wears tires evenly.

Why this part is needed

With a tight ball-and-socket, it maintains firm steering feel and safe response in corners and under braking. Replacing a worn joint restores on-center stability, reduces noise, and protects suspension and tires.

How it works

A tapered stud seats in the knuckle; a sealed socket allows smooth pivot as the rack pushes and pulls. The threaded shank and lock nut set toe during alignment. A protective boot keeps grease in and dirt out, preserving the polished ball surface.

What happens if it fails ⚠️

Play in the joint causes clunks, wander, shimmy at speed, and uneven tire wear. Severe wear can let toe change mid-drive, lengthen stopping distance, or, in extreme cases, allow separation—leading to loss of steering. Replace if the boot is torn, the stud is loose, or corrosion is present. Always torque correctly and perform a wheel alignment after installation.
