Right Front Door Check Mechanism

This component is fitted between the body pillar and the right front door to control how the door opens and holds. It’s a small part with a big job: keeping the door stable in set positions so it doesn’t swing freely in wind or on a slope .

Why this part is needed

Every time you open the door, the door’s weight and leverage try to over-stress the hinges. The check mechanism absorbs that motion, limits travel, and provides “stop points” so the door stays where you leave it.

How it works

Inside, a reinforced arm slides through a friction and detent system. As the door moves, the arm rides over shaped steps that create smooth holding positions. This reduces sudden door movement and protects hinge alignment.

What happens when it fails

If worn or broken, the door may not stay open, may snap shut, or may over-open. Common signs include clicking, grinding, stiff movement, or a door that feels loose. Continued driving like this can strain hinges, damage the A-pillar area, and even crack the door-side mounting points ⚠️.
