Informationen

Engine Knock Detection Sensor Assembly ?

This sensor is a key safeguard for your engine. It is needed to detect abnormal combustion (knock/ping) that can happen under load, poor fuel quality, high heat, or wrong ignition timing. When the ECU knows knock is starting, it can protect the engine before damage spreads.

How It Works ⚙️

Inside is a piezo element that “hears” vibration from the engine block. When knock-frequency vibrations appear, it converts them into an electrical signal. The ECU reads this signal and instantly adjusts ignition timing (and sometimes fuel strategy) to stop detonation while keeping power and economy as high as possible.

What Happens If It’s Broken ❗

A faulty sensor or cracked wiring can cause the ECU to lose knock feedback. Many vehicles then run a safe mode with retarded timing: power drops, fuel use increases, and the check engine light may turn on. If the engine keeps knocking without proper correction, it can lead to overheating, piston damage, and worn bearings over time.
